AN ACT

MAKING APPROPRIATIONS TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY OF THE SECOND JUDICIAL DISTRICT AND THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO FUND EFFORTS TO REDUCE THE BACKLOG OF OUTSTANDING WARRANTS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATIONS.--The following amounts are appropriated from the general fund to the following agencies for expenditure in fiscal year 2024 to fund efforts to reduce the backlog of outstanding felony and misdemeanor arrest warrants, and any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2024 shall revert to the general fund:

          A. to the local government division of the department of finance and administration, nine million dollars ($9,000,000) for police departments, sheriff's offices and New Mexico state police offices within Bernalillo county;

          B. to the district attorney of the second judicial district, one million dollars ($1,000,000) to collaborate with police departments, sheriff's offices and New Mexico state police offices within Bernalillo county in warrant backlog efforts; and

          C. to the department of public safety, ten million dollars ($10,000,000) for police departments, sheriff's offices and New Mexico state police offices within any other county or municipality where such funds are needed for warrant backlog efforts.
