AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO TO ESTABLISH A QUANTUM MATERIALS AND TECHNOLOGIES PROGRAM IN COLLABORATION WITH NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY, THE NEW MEXICO INSTITUTE OF MINING AND TECHNOLOGY AND THE FEDERAL RESEARCH LABORATORIES WITHIN THE STATE TO DEVELOP CURRICULA, FACULTY AND TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND USE OF QUANTUM MATERIALS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF WORKFORCE TRAINING PROGRAMS IN THE USE AND MAINTENANCE OF QUANTUM MATERIALS TECHNOLOGIES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Fifteen million dollars ($15,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal years 2024 through 2028 to establish a quantum materials and technologies program in collaboration with New Mexico state university, the New Mexico institute of mining and technology and the federal research laboratories within the state to develop curricula, faculty and technologies for the development and use of quantum materials and to develop workforce training programs in collaboration with the community colleges in the state in the use and maintenance of quantum materials technologies; provided that no more than three million dollars ($3,000,000) shall be expended in any given fiscal year. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2028 shall revert to the general fund.
