AN ACT

RELATING TO HEALTH CARE; ENACTING A NEW SECTION OF THE PHARMACY ACT TO ESTABLISH THAT REGISTERED NURSES AND LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSES EMPLOYED BY OPIOID TREATMENT PROGRAMS MAY DISPENSE METHADONE FOR TAKE-HOME PURPOSES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of the Pharmacy Act is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] OPIOID TREATMENT PROGRAMS--TAKE-HOME METHADONE.--Under the supervision of a licensed physician, a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse employed by an opioid treatment program approved by the department of health may dispense a maximum of a twenty-seven-day supply of methadone for take-home purposes to a client of the opioid treatment program."
