A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING VICTIMS OF VIOLENT CRIME AND THEIR FAMILIES AND HONORING THEIR LOSS AND SUFFERING.

 

     WHEREAS, victims of violent crime not only bear the burden of the crime, they often have to relive the event multiple times during any prosecution; and

     WHEREAS, victims of violent crime too often have to relive their experience again when they see their perpetrator has inflicted the same pain on others; and

     WHEREAS, the high rate of crime and the high number of repeat violent offenders cause victims, their families and the public to feel unsafe; and

     WHEREAS, victims of violent crime and their families face trauma, hardships and grief; and

     WHEREAS, victims of violent crime deserve respect, honor and an expression of sorrow for their pain and suffering;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that victims of violent crime and their families be honored and recognized for their loss and suffering; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the chair of the crime victims reparation commission.
