A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 7, 2023 "ASIAN AMERICAN, PACIFIC ISLANDER AND NATIVE HAWAIIAN DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, there are more than fifty-one thousand people in New Mexico who identify as Asian American, Pacific Islander or Native Hawaiian; and

     WHEREAS, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians are among the fastest-growing and emerging communities of color in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians contribute greatly to the economy of New Mexico with their labor, industry, businesses and purchasing power; and

     WHEREAS, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians are contributing their unique culture, customs, histories, languages and traditions to the richly diverse culture of New Mexico;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 7, 2023 be declared "Asian American, Pacific Islander and Native Hawaiian Day" in the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this day be a celebration of all past, present and future New Mexicans who are Asian American, Pacific Islander, Native Hawaiian, East Asian, Southeast Asian and South Asian and all other groups who have migrated from, have historical ties to or identify themselves as from Asia; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico Asian family center, the Asian business collaborative and the center for civic policy.
