A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 21, 2023 "SANDOVAL COUNTY ONE HUNDRED TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, Sandoval county was founded on March 10, 1903, nine years before New Mexico's statehood, and was created from the northern part of Bernalillo county; and

     WHEREAS, Sandoval county is the fourth most populous county in New Mexico, with a population of slightly more than one hundred fifty-one thousand residents; and

     WHEREAS, Sandoval county measures three thousand seven hundred square miles and boasts a diverse economic base consisting of high-technology industries, health care, construction and tourism; and

     WHEREAS, Sandoval county includes ten pueblos: Cochiti, Jemez, Kewa (Santo Domingo), Laguna, San Felipe, San Ildefonso, Sandia, Santa Ana, Santa Clara and Zia; and two tribal nations, the Jicarilla Apache Nation and the Navajo Nation; and

     WHEREAS, Sandoval county includes the Continental Divide national scenic trail, Coronado historic site, Jemez mountain trail scenic byway, Kasha-Katuwe tent rocks national monument, route 66 national byway, pre-1937 historic route 66, Valles Caldera national preserve and Redondo peak; and

     WHEREAS, Sandoval county has the third largest city in the state, Rio Rancho, and the safest community in the state, Corrales, and is home to the original route for route 66 in Bernalillo;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 21, 2023 be declared "Sandoval County One Hundred Twentieth Anniversary Day" in the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the Sandoval county manager, the Sandoval county board of county commissioners and the president and chief executive officer of the Rio Rancho regional chamber of commerce.
