A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 17, 2023 "SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT DAY" IN THE SENATE.

 

     WHEREAS, soil and water conservation districts promote responsible management and conservation of natural resources on all lands; and

     WHEREAS, these districts have effectively reached out to communities to teach the value of natural resources and to encourage conservation efforts; and

     WHEREAS, each year, soil and water conservation districts work with leaders in agriculture, environment, education and other industries to drive voluntary, incentive-driven programs that benefit everyone; and

     WHEREAS, nearly three thousand such districts nationwide assist in stewardship responsibilities and ensure that the work of conservation is maintained at the local level; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico's forty-seven soil and water conservation districts amplify the common voice of federal, state and local governments, tribes and more than ten thousand farmers and ranchers that are the stewards of more than seventy-seven million acres of forest, range, cropland, pasture and other lands in the state; and

     WHEREAS, since 1946, New Mexico's soil and water conservation districts have successfully executed the staffing, networking, funding, policy, programs, influence and governance to be the renowned resource and delivery system for achieving conservation directly with landowners;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 17, 2023 be declared "Soil and Water Conservation District Day" in the senate; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico association of conservation districts.
