AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR GRANTS TO PUBLIC POST-SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS TO DEVELOP A PRE-SERVICE TEACHER COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION PROGRAM.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million dollars ($1,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the higher education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2025 to provide grants to public post-secondary educational institutions to develop a pre-service teacher computer science education program that will address the computer science teacher shortage in New Mexico. The pre-service teacher computer science education grants shall require recipients to identify opportunities for partnership between school districts and public post-secondary educational institutions to create direct pathways for computer science teachers in high-need schools. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2025 shall revert to the general fund.
