AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF CHILE HARVESTING SOLUTIONS AND MARKETING AND PROMOTION OF CHILE GROWN IN NEW MEXICO.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATIONS.--

          A. The following amounts are appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico state university for expenditure in fiscal years 2025 and 2026 for the purposes specified:

                (1) four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000) for the college of agricultural, consumer and environmental sciences to conduct research and development of chile harvesting solutions to support the needs of the New Mexico chile industry; and

                (2) one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) for the college of agricultural, consumer and environmental sciences to collaborate with a statewide association that represents growers, processors, manufacturers and others involved in the New Mexico chile industry to design and implement a marketing and promotional campaign for chile grown in New Mexico.

          B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2026 shall revert to the general fund.
