AN ACT

RELATING TO PUBLIC OFFICERS; REQUIRING THE GOVERNOR, LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR AND MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNOR'S CABINET TO USE ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN THE COURSE OF THEIR GOVERNMENT SERVICE; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of the Executive Reorganization Act is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] GOVERNOR--LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR--CABINET MEMBERS--ELECTRIC VEHICLES.--

          A. The governor, lieutenant governor and members of the executive cabinet shall use only electric vehicles in the course of performing the duties of their office throughout their term of office.

          B. For the purposes of this section, "electric vehicle" means a new motor vehicle registered or purchased in New Mexico that derives all or part of the vehicle's power from electricity stored in a battery that:

                (1) has a capacity of not less than six

kilowatt-hours;

                (2) is capable of powering the vehicle

for a range of at least forty miles; and

                (3) is capable of being recharged from

an external source of electricity."

     SECTION 2. APPROPRIATION.--One million dollars ($1,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the general services department for expenditure in fiscal year 2025 to purchase electric vehicles as provided for in Section 1 of this act. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2025 shall revert to the general fund.
