A MEMORIAL

PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 1, 2024 "CITY OF SANTA FE DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, on January 21, 1911, the constitution of New Mexico was approved by the voters of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, every year since, the city of Santa Fe has hosted legislators from across the state to create the laws that support state government and the people of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, from the early Native American village to the Spanish/European settlement, through the pueblo revolt to the Spanish resettlement, as part of Mexico and now the United States, the city of Santa Fe is fortunate to be the seat of New Mexico's government and such a historically rich city; and

     WHEREAS, the city of Santa Fe continues to welcome a diverse constituency from New Mexico and visitors from the region and nation during each legislative session; and

     WHEREAS, the residents of Santa Fe and New Mexico celebrate diversity, value the environment, treasure respective cultures and honor southwest history; and

     WHEREAS, the residents, culture and economy of the city of Santa Fe greatly benefit from the devoted and hard-working city, state, county and federal employees living and working in this beautiful city; and

     WHEREAS, the residents and elected officials of the city of Santa Fe salute the dedicated efforts of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and state legislators working in partnership to resolve the important issues facing the community and state; and

     WHEREAS, the residents of the city of Santa Fe work hard to make each legislator's experience in Santa Fe an enjoyable one by offering access to various city facilities and services; and

     WHEREAS, the city of Santa Fe has made outstanding progress in the last year with a brand new teen center opening and the completion of the historic Santa Fe depot restoration and, through the built for zero movement to end chronic homelessness, thirty percent of the homeless residents of Consuelo's place were placed into permanent housing; and

     WHEREAS, the city council voted to put on the ballot, and passed, a three percent excise tax on high-end home sales to provide sustainable, dedicated funding for affordable and workforce housing; the public works teams filled nine thousand four hundred eighty-eight potholes in a year and a half, cleared one thousand seven hundred four medians and collected sixty-seven tons of litter and trash and secured fifty million dollars ($50,000,000) in grant funding for road and trail repairs; and

     WHEREAS, the city of Santa Fe was selected as one of the "best places to live and work as a movie maker" for the second year in a row, with twenty-eight significant awards and record-breaking festivals, and, up next: the grand reopening of the newly remodeled Santa Fe regional airport terminal; and

     WHEREAS, the residents of the city of Santa Fe and the state of New Mexico are blessed to live in the greatest place in the United States and on earth;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that congratulations be extended to the city of Santa Fe for being the great capital city it is and that February 1, 2024 be proclaimed "City of Santa Fe Day" in the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the mayor and city council of the city of Santa Fe.
