0012|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAMS IN

0013|     PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

0015|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0016|       Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars
    |
0017|     ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state
    |
0018|     department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year
    |
0019|     1997 for the purpose of funding grants to school districts that
    |
0020|     develop programs to prevent and curb violence in public schools. 
    |
0021|     In awarding grants, the department shall verify that funded
    |
0022|     programs demonstrate the use of appropriate school counseling
    |
0023|     services.  Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at
    |
0024|     the end of fiscal year 1997 shall revert to the general fund.
