0012|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE OFFICE OF THE STATE ENGINEER TO

0013|     CONDUCT A COMPREHENSIVE STATEWIDE WATER ASSESSMENT.

0015|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

0016|       Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--One million dollars
    |
0017|     ($1,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the office
    |
0018|     of the state engineer for expenditure in fiscal year 1997 to
    |
0019|     conduct a comprehensive statewide water resources study,
    |
0020|     combining other ongoing or completed studies' data and to
    |
0021|     compile an assessment of water rights and water resources'
    |
0022|     quantities, qualities and locations.  Any unexpended or
    |
0023|     unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 1997
    |
0024|     shall revert to the general fund.
