0012| MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A PUBLIC SERVICE PARTNERSHIP

0013| INITIATIVE TO ESTABLISH A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN AREA COLLEGES AND

0014| UNIVERSITIES AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES.

0016| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

0017| Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three hundred thousand dollars
|
0018| ($300,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the
|
0019| commission on higher education for expenditure in fiscal year
|
0020| 1997 for the purpose of organizing and selecting participants
|
0021| for a public service partnership initiative. In organizing the
|
0022| initiative, the commission on higher education shall provide for
|
0023| the selection of participants and the distribution of awards to
|
0024| selected participating colleges and universities in an amount
|
0025| not to exceed fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) per award.
|
0001| Awards shall be expended by the participating educational
|
0002| institution to form a partnership with a local community service
|
0003| provider. The partnership developed shall use educational
|
0004| institution resources to address issues and concerns in the
|
0005| local community. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance
|
0006| remaining at the end of fiscal year 1997 shall revert to the
|
0007| general fund.
