0012| REQUESTING THAT THE STATE CORPORATION COMMISSION ESTABLISH

0013| ENTENDED AREA SERVICE IN A RADIUS OF SEVENTY-FIVE MILES OF ALL
|
0014| LOCAL CALLING AREAS.

0016| WHEREAS, New Mexico is served by fifteen local exchange
|
0017| telephone companies and telephone cooperatives; and
|
0018| WHEREAS, more than one telephone utility may serve
|
0019| residents of the same county, and long-distance charges and
|
0020| special fees are assessed to customers for connecting to
|
0021| different service providers; and
|
0022| WHEREAS, local calling areas may not coincide with
|
0023| customers' geographical perceptions of their local communities;
|
0024| and
|
0025| WHEREAS, the constitution of New Mexico assigns the state
|
0001| corporation commission authority to regulate telephone services
|
0002| and set rates;
|
0003| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
|
0004| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state corporation commission be
|
0005| requested to establish extended area services for a radius of
|
0006| seventy-five miles of all local calling areas; and
|
0007| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
|
0008| transmitted to the state corporation commission.

0005| EXTENDED AREA SERVICE PROCEEDING.".
