0012|     REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT TO

0013|     WIDEN UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 666 BETWEEN YAH-TA-HEY AND SHIPROCK.

0015|       WHEREAS, United States highway 666 is the only major
    |
0016|     highway running north and south on the Navajo reservation in New
    |
0017|     Mexico; and
    |
0018|       WHEREAS, this highway connects Gallup with Farmington and
    |
0019|     with Shiprock, the largest Navajo community in New Mexico, as
    |
0020|     well as connecting the Navajo nation's capitol with Shiprock and
    |
0021|     Farmington; and
    |
0022|       WHEREAS, United States highway 666 is very congested and
    |
0023|     many accidents occur on this route;
    |
0024|       NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
    |
0025|     STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway and transportation
    |
0001|     department be asked to cooperate with the United States
    |
0002|     department of transportation and the Navajo division of
    |
0003|     transportation and community development to widen United States
    |
0004|     highway 666 from two lanes to four lanes between Yah-Ta-Hey and
    |
0005|     Shiprock in McKinley and San Juan counties; and
    |
0006|       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
    |
0007|     transmitted to the secretary of highway and transportation, the
    |
0008|     secretary of the United States department of transportation and
    |
0009|     the director of the Navajo division of transportation and
    |
0010|     community development.
