0001| AN ACT | 0002| RELATING TO THE LEGAL PROFESSION; OBTAINING CRIMINAL HISTORY | 0003| INFORMATION ON APPLICANTS FOR A LICENSE TO PRACTICE LAW. | 0004| | 0005| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO: | 0006| Section 1. APPLICANTS FOR LICENSE TO PRACTICE LAW--CRIMINAL | 0007| HISTORY INFORMATION.-- | 0008| A. The supreme court shall require a background | 0009| investigation of each applicant for admission to the state bar of New | 0010| Mexico by means of fingerprint checks by the department of public | 0011| safety and the federal bureau of investigation. | 0012| B. The director of the administrative office of the | 0013| courts shall obtain from the department of public safety and the | 0014| federal bureau of investigation, at the expense of an applicant | 0015| for a license to practice law in the state of New Mexico, criminal | 0016| history information concerning each applicant, using the | 0017| applicant's fingerprints or other identifying information. The | 0018| information shall be used only by the supreme court and the board | 0019| of bar examiners in determining whether to grant the application, | 0020| and shall not be disseminated to any other person or agency. The | 0021| information shall be destroyed after the application is granted or | 0022| denied. | 0023| |
