0006| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0007|      Section 1.  APPROPRIATION TO HOUSE INMATES--CONTRACT PROVISIONS.-
    |

0009|           A.  Two million dollars ($2,000,000) is appropriated from
    |
0010| the general fund to the corrections department for expenditure in
    |
0011| fiscal year 1998 to contract with Cibola county to house additional
    |
0012| inmates at the Cibola county corrections center.  Any unexpended or
    |
0013| unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 1998 shall
    |
0014| revert to the general fund.
    |
0015|           B.  The contract entered into pursuant to Subsection A of
    |
0016| this section shall provide:
    |
0017|                (1)  that the total number of state inmates housed at
    |
0018| the Cibola county corrections center shall equal five hundred fifty-
    |
0019| two medium security inmates and one hundred seventy-six minimum
    |
0020| restrict inmates; and
    |
0021|                (2)  that the corrections department shall not reduce
    |
0022| the number of inmates housed at the Cibola county corrections center
    |
0023| below the numbers specified in Paragraph (1) of this subsection unless
    |
0024| it has first removed all similarly classified state inmates from all
    |
0025| other private or county operated correctional facilities.+

0001|      Section 2.  EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the
    |
0002| provisions of this act is July 1, 1997.
