0001| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0002| REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO VETERANS' SERVICE COMMISSION TO STUDY THE | 0003| FEASIBILITY OF ESTABLISHING NEW VETERANS' CEMETERIES IN THE STATE OF | 0004| NEW MEXICO. | 0005| | 0006| WHEREAS, the national cemetery in Santa Fe is full; and | 0007| WHEREAS, New Mexico has a large veteran population of over one | 0008| hundred seventy thousand; and | 0009| WHEREAS, it is incumbent on our society to honor the veterans who | 0010| have served their nation with honor and love; and | 0011| WHEREAS, veterans of our armed services who fought in wars for | 0012| the preservation of our liberty, freedom and strength will follow the | 0013| course of all living things and succumb to the inevitable peace of | 0014| death; | 0015| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF | 0016| NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico veterans' service commission be | 0017| requested to study the feasibility of establishing new veterans' | 0018| cemeteries in New Mexico; and | 0019| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the commission complete its task by | 0020| December 1, 1997 and report its progress to the appropriate interim | 0021| committee of the legislature; and | 0022| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be | 0023| transmitted to the members of the New Mexico veterans' service | 0024| commission. |
