0011|     RELATING TO EDUCATION; AUTHORIZING TUITION WAIVERS AT POST-

0012|     SECONDARY STATE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS FOR CERTAIN CLASSROOM

0015|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0016|          Section 1.  PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS--TUITION WAIVER
    |
0017|     AUTHORIZED--CERTAIN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.--The board of
    |
0018|     regents of the university of New Mexico, New Mexico state
    |
0019|     university, New Mexico institute of mining and technology,
    |
0020|     western New Mexico university, eastern New Mexico university
    |
0021|     and New Mexico highlands university shall waive tuition charges
    |
0022|     for up to three credit hours per academic year for each
    |
0023|     classroom teacher employed full time by a New Mexico public
    |
0024|     school district.  The three credit hours shall be for courses
    |
0025|     that are consistent with the teacher's professional development
    |
0001|     plan as approved by the local school board.

0023|        1.   On page 2, line 1, after the period insert:

0025|        "In determining budget and revenue calculations, the

0001|   commission on higher education shall not take credit for tuition
    |
0002|   money a university does not receive as a result of a public
    |
0003|   school tuition waiver.",
    |

    |
0005|   and thence referred to the APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCE
    |
0006|   COMMITTEE.
