0011|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC DEFENDER DEPARTMENT TO

0012|     ASSIST CERTAIN MENTALLY ILL PERSONS.

0014|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

0015|          Section 1.  APPROPRIATION--PUBLIC DEFENDER DEPARTMENT.--
    |
0016|     Three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) is appropriated from
    |
0017|     the general fund to the public defender department for
    |
0018|     expenditure in fiscal year 1998 for the purpose of developing a
    |
0019|     diversion program to assist certain mentally ill persons being
    |
0020|     held by local law enforcement agencies.  Any unexpended or
    |
0021|     unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 1998
    |
0022|     shall revert to the general fund.
