0011|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF

0012|     ESTABLISHING COMMUNITY SENTENCING BOARDS IN NEW MEXICO.

0014|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0015|          Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--Twenty thousand dollars
    |
0016|     ($20,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the criminal
    |
0017|     and juvenile justice coordinating council for expenditure in
    |
0018|     fiscal year 1998 for the purpose of conducting a feasibility
    |
0019|     study regarding the establishment of community sentencing
    |
0020|     boards in New Mexico.  The criminal and juvenile justice
    |
0021|     coordinating council shall gather information regarding the
    |
0022|     operation of existing community sentencing boards in Vermont,
    |
0023|     Austin, Texas and the Canadian province of Saskatchewan and
    |
0024|     report its findings to the legislature no later than December
    |
0025|     1, 1997.  Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at
    |
0001|     the end of fiscal year 1998 shall revert to the general fund.
