0011| RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES; PROVIDING FOR SPECIAL LOS HIJOS

0012| HIDALGO DE NUEVO MEXICO REGISTRATION PLATES

0014| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
|
0015| Section 1. A new section of the Motor Vehicle Code is
|
0016| enacted to read:
|
0017| "[NEW MATERIAL] SPECIAL LOS HIJOS HIDALGOS DE NUEVO
|
0018| MEXICO REGISTRATION PLATES--PROCEDURES--FEE.--
|
0019| A. The department shall establish and issue special
|
0020| Los Hijos Hidalgo de Nuevo Mexico registration plates for any
|
0021| private motor vehicle except a motorcycle. The department
|
0022| shall adopt procedures for application for and issuance of the
|
0023| special Los Hijos Hidalgo de Nuevo Mexico registration plates.
|
0024| B. The department shall determine the color and
|
0025| design of the registration plate and provide for its issuance.
|
0001| No personalized or vanity design variation of the special Los
|
0002| Hijos Hidalgo de Nuevo Mexico registration plates shall be
|
0003| issued.
|
0004| C. For a fee of thirty-five dollars ($35.00), which
|
0005| shall be in addition to the regular motor vehicle registration
|
0006| fees, any owner of a motor vehicle may apply for the issuance
|
0007| of a special Los Hijos Hidalgo de Nuevo Mexico registration
|
0008| plate, provided that the owner's surname is Hidalgo or the
|
0009| owner can prove to the satisfaction of the department that he
|
0010| has the Hidalgo surname in his lineage. The owner of a motor
|
0011| vehicle shall apply for and pay a renewal fee of ten dollars
|
0012| ($10.00) for each subsequent year if he wishes to retain and
|
0013| renew a special Los Hijos Hidalgo de Nuevo Mexico registration
|
0014| plate."
