0011|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY FOR A

0012|     NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENT RETENTION PROJECT.

0014|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

0015|          Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--One hundred thousand dollars
    |
0016|     ($100,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board
    |
0017|     of regents of New Mexico state university for expenditure in
    |
0018|     fiscal year 1998 for the purpose of establishing a Native
    |
0019|     American student retention project that is comprised of
    |
0020|     components in counseling, tutoring, assessment, expansion of
    |
0021|     orientation programs, mentoring and general educational
    |
0022|     support.  Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at
    |
0023|     the end of fiscal year 1998 shall revert to the general fund.
