0011|          DESIGNATING FEBRUARY 19, 1997 AS "NEW MEXICO LABS DAY".

0013|          WHEREAS, New Mexico has been at the forefront of
    |
0014|     scientific endeavors for over fifty years due to the presence
    |
0015|     in our state of several national research and development
    |
0016|     institutions; and
    |
0017|          WHEREAS, the air force Phillips laboratory, Los Alamos
    |
0018|     national laboratories and Sandia national laboratories have
    |
0019|     made an enormous contribution to the safety and security of the
    |
0020|     United States and have helped to maintain the United States'
    |
0021|     preeminent position in research and development worldwide; and
    |
0022|          WHEREAS, the laboratories have provided substantial
    |
0023|     employment, purchase of in-state goods and services and many
    |
0024|     other economic benefits to the citizens of the state; and
    |
0025|          WHEREAS, our laboratories have been partners with other
    |
0001|     entities in the state in the areas of community and education
    |
0002|     outreach, technology transfer and computing;
    |
0003|          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED  BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
    |
0004|     STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it designate February 19, 1997 as "New
    |
0005|     Mexico Labs Day"; and
    |
0006|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
    |
0007|     transmitted to our New Mexico laboratories.
