0011| RELATING TO COUNTIES; INCREASING SALARIES OF ELECTED COUNTY

0014| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
|
0015| Section 1. Section 4-44-4 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1957,
|
0016| Chapter 196, Section 2, as amended) is amended to read:
|
0017| "4-44-4. CLASS A COUNTIES--SALARIES.--The annual
|
0018| salaries of elected officers of class A counties shall not
|
0019| exceed:
|
0020| A. county commissioners, [nineteen thousand four
|
hundred forty-two dollars ($19,442)] twenty-two thousand
|
0022| three hundred fifty-eight dollars ($22,358) each;

|
0007| ($14,000,000) but under twenty-seven million dollars
|
0008| ($27,000,000) shall not exceed:

0005| Section 7. Section 4-44-14 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1955,

0006| Chapter 4, Section 2, as amended) is amended to read:

0007| "4-44-14. H CLASS COUNTIES--SALARIES AND EXPENSES.--
|
0008| A. Officers elected or appointed in the counties
|
0009| of the H class shall receive the following annual salaries:
|
0010| (1) county commissioners, one dollar ($l.00);
|
0011| (2) treasurer, one dollar ($1.00);
|
0012| (3) assessor, one dollar ($1.00);
|
0013| (4) sheriff, one dollar ($1.00);
|
0014| (5) county clerk, one dollar ($l.00);
|
0015| (6) probate judge, [two thousand three
|
hundred four dollars ($2,304)] two thousand six hundred
|
0017| fifty dollars ($2,650); and
|
0018| (7) county surveyor, not to exceed ten
|
0019| dollars ($10.00) per day for each day actually employed under
|
0020| orders by the board of county commissioners, such employment
|
0021| not to exceed fifty days in any one year.
|
0022| B. The elected H class county officials listed in
|
0023| Subsection A of this section, except probate judge, in
|
0024| addition to the salaries [therein] prescribed shall be
|
0025| entitled to receive as per diem expense the sum of not more
|

0001| than fifteen dollars ($15.00) while in actual attendance at
|
0002| county commission meetings or while engaged in the performance
|
0003| of their official duties for the county. However, the total
|
0004| per diem expense allowance for each elected H class county
|
0005| official listed in Subsection A of this section shall not
|
0006| exceed three hundred fifty dollars ($350) in any fiscal year.
|
0007| Such per diem expense shall be in addition to any allowance
|
0008| for sheriff's mileage or for other out-of-county expenses
|
0009| allowed for all officials by law and shall be budgeted, paid
|
0010| and audited as provided by laws governing expenditures of
|
0011| county funds."
|
0012| Section 8. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the
|
0013| provisions of this act is January 1, 1999.
