0011|     RELATING TO GAME AND FISH; AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF AN

0012|     ADDITIONAL BIGHORN SHEEP ENHANCEMENT PERMIT; AMENDING A

0013|     SECTION OF THE NMSA 1978.

0015|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0016|          Section 1.  Section 17-3-16.1 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1989,
    |
0017|     Chapter 384, Section 1) is amended to read:
    |
0018|          "17-3-16.1.  BIGHORN SHEEP ENHANCEMENT <s>[PERMIT]</s>
    |
0019|     <u>PERMITS</u>--ISSUANCE--USE.--
    |
0020|               A.  The state game commission shall direct the
    |
0021|     department of game and fish to authorize not more than <s>[one]</s>
    |
0022|     <u>two</u> of the permits available for issuance in the license
    |
0023|     year for the taking of <s>[one]</s> <u>two</u> bighorn <s>[ram]</s> <u>rams</u>
    |
0024|     for the purpose of raising funds for programs and projects to
    |
0025|     benefit bighorn sheep.

0001|               B.  The state game commission shall prescribe by
    |
0002|     regulation the form, design and manner of issuance of the
    |
0003|     bighorn sheep enhancement <s>[permit]</s> <u>permits</u>.  The issuance
    |
0004|     of <s>[such]</s> <u>one</u> permit shall be subject to auction by the
    |
0005|     department or by an incorporated nonprofit organization
    |
0006|     dedicated to conservation of wildlife, as determined by the
    |
0007|     commission, and shall be sold to the highest bidder.  <u>The
</u>    |
<u></u>0008| <u>    issuance of the other permit shall be subject to a lottery by
</u>    |
<u></u>0009| <u>    the department or by an unincorporated nonprofit organization
</u>    |
<u></u>0010| <u>    dedicated to conservation of wildlife, as determined by the
</u>    |
<u></u>0011| <u>    commission.</u>
    |
0012|               C.  All money collected from the issuance and sale
    |
0013|     of the bighorn sheep enhancement <s>[permit]</s> <u>permits</u> shall be
    |
0014|     credited to the game protection fund to be used exclusively
    |
0015|     for bighorn sheep preservation, restoration and management."
