                      STATE OF NEW MEXICO
            43RD LEGISLATURE - SECOND SESSION, 1998

                           REQUESTED BY

FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS AT CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE.

     I request that the following capital outlay projects be funded:

                    to the capital program fund:
     
          A.  nine hundred eighty thousand dollars ($980,000) to make electrical and
mechanical modifications and improvements at the penitentiary of New Mexico located in Santa
Fe county;

          B.  five hundred eighty thousand dollars ($580,000) to make improvements to
convert certain housing units at the north facility to administrative segregation use at the
penitentiary of New Mexico located in Santa Fe county;

          C.  five hundred thirty-nine thousand dollars ($539,000) to make improvements
to the education building in order to convert it to a mental health, reception and diagnostic
center at the central New Mexico correctional facility located in Valencia county;

          D.  seven hundred eighty thousand dollars ($780,000) to plan, design and
construct a warehouse and maintenance building, and for the conversion of the present facility
for use for inmate dining at the western New Mexico correctional facility located in Cibola
county; and

          E.  six hundred twenty thousand dollars ($620,000) for the installation of a water
storage tank and new water lines to ensure proper fire protection and water pressure at the
southern New Mexico correctional facility located in Dona Ana county.
