WRIGHT | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0011| REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL TO CONSIDER | 0012| INCREASING THE NUMBER OF ARMED GUARDS AT THE STATE CAPITOL | 0013| DURING THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION AND EMPLOYING ARMED GUARDS | 0014| DURING THE INTERIM. | 0015| | 0016| WHEREAS, extremists have targeted public buildings for | 0017| assault in order to express their violent political goals; and | 0018| WHEREAS, such extremists blew up a federal government | 0019| building in Oklahoma City, killing almost two hundred innocent | 0020| people in the process; and | 0021| WHEREAS, bomb threats directed at New Mexico's state | 0022| capitol have been received by local authorities; and | 0023| WHEREAS, a visiting legislator's purse was snatched on | 0024| the capitol grounds in the fall of 1995; and | 0025| WHEREAS, the capitol has been the target of graffiti |

0001| vandals; | 0002| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0003| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico legislative council | 0004| consider increasing the number of armed guards during the | 0005| legislative session and employing armed guards during the | 0006| interim; and | 0007| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be | 0008| transmitted to the co-chairmen of the New Mexico legislative | 0009| council and to the director of the legislative council | 0010| service. | 0011|  |
