0011| REQUESTING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION TO

0012| REDESIGN ITS TEACHER'S CERTIFICATES.

0014| WHEREAS, attorneys, physicians, accountants, architects
|
0015| and other professionals except teachers receive their
|
0016| credentials in a form that is suitable for framing; and
|
0017| WHEREAS, even the occupations provide impressive looking
|
0018| documents; and
|
0019| WHEREAS, they all can proudly display their certificates,
|
0020| licenses or registrations, but teachers receive as their
|
0021| professional credentials a small plain piece of typewritten
|
0022| white paper that is torn from a larger piece of plain white
|
0023| paper, with no fancy borders or embellished fonts; and
|
0024| WHEREAS, a teacher's certificate is too big for a wallet
|
0025| but too small for framing, though it is the right size for
|

0001| losing in one's employment file; and
|
0002| WHEREAS, if one's professional importance is judged by
|
0003| the type of certificate, license or registration one receives,
|
0004| teachers must rank at the bottom, which is not a very good
|
0005| message to send to people who are so important to the lives of
|
0006| our families and the futures of our children;
|
0007| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
|
0008| REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state
|
0009| department of public education be requested to redesign
|
0010| teacher's certificates to more properly convey the stature of
|
0011| the job and send the message that teachers are as important as
|
0012| the other professionals licensed in this state; and
|
0013| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be
|
0014| transmitted to the state department of public education.
