0011|     REQUESTING THAT RESIDENTS OF ADOBE ACRES WHO ARE REGISTERED AT

0012|     PRECINCT 54 BE ALLOWED TO VOTE AT ADOBE ACRES ELEMENTARY

0013|     SCHOOL OR A SIMILAR, CONVENIENT LOCATION.

0015|          WHEREAS, the right to vote is the most fundamental and
    |
0016|     priceless right that a citizen possesses; and
    |
0017|          WHEREAS, the national trend is toward simplifying and
    |
0018|     increasing voters' access to the ballot through a variety of
    |
0019|     measures, including early voting and mail-in balloting; and
    |
0020|          WHEREAS, occasionally the right to vote in a convenient
    |
0021|     and easily accessible polling place is compromised by the need
    |
0022|     to adjust the size of precincts, which should have no more
    |
0023|     than eight hundred persons who voted there at the last general
    |
0024|     election; and
    |
0025|          WHEREAS, when precincts are adjusted in this manner and a
    |

0001|     large group of voters are inconvenienced, another way should

0002|     be found to adjust the size of the voting population at the
    |
0003|     precinct; and
    |
0004|          WHEREAS, this precinct problem has occurred in Bernalillo
    |
0005|     county at precinct number 54, and voters in Adobe Acres who
    |
0006|     were previously required to vote at Adobe Acres elementary
    |
0007|     school are no longer allowed to vote there;
    |
0008|          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
    |
0009|     REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the Bernalillo
    |
0010|     county clerk be requested to adjust precincts in the Adobe
    |
0011|     Acres area to allow those voters in precinct 54 who have been
    |
0012|     inconvenienced to once again vote at Adobe Acres elementary
    |
0013|     school or a similar convenient location; and
    |
0014|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
    |
0015|     sent to the Bernalillo county clerk and the secretary of
    |
0016|     state.
