0001| SENATE JOINT MEMORIAL 1 | 0002| 43RD LEGISLATURE - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - SECOND SESSION, 1998 | 0003| INTRODUCED BY | 0004| Pete Campos | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0011| REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TO STUDY THE NEED FOR | 0012| SERVICES FOR THE TREATMENT OF ALCOHOLISM IN SAN MIGUEL COUNTY. | 0013| | 0014| WHEREAS, services for alcoholism treatment in Las Vegas | 0015| are now provided by the Rio Grande detoxification center; and | 0016| WHEREAS, the center operates at one hundred percent | 0017| capacity ninety-nine percent of the time; and | 0018| WHEREAS, Las Vegas does not have a long-term treatment | 0019| facility and patients must move to other locations, which | 0020| presents a serious obstacle to successful treatment; and | 0021| WHEREAS, in a survey of fifteen health care providers and | 0022| judicial authorities, twelve responded that alcohol treatment | 0023| services almost never accommodate needs; and | 0024| WHEREAS, critical services for successful patient | 0025| treatment such as family therapy and job placement are not |

0001| available in Las Vegas; | 0002| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0003| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department of health be requested | 0004| to conduct a study of the alcoholism treatment services | 0005| available in Las Vegas and San Miguel county with specific | 0006| attention to the availability of a comprehensive treatment | 0007| facility able to serve large numbers of both inpatient and | 0008| outpatient clients; and | 0009| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the department of health | 0010| report its findings to the appropriate legislative committee | 0011| by November 1, 1998; and | 0012| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be | 0013| transmitted to the secretary of health. | 0014|  |
