CISNEROS | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0011| REQUESTING THE NEW PRESIDENTS OF ALL PUBLIC POST-SECONDARY | 0012| EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS TO PREPARE ACADEMIC ADVISORY PLANS | 0013| FOR IMPROVING RATES OF STUDENT RETENTION AND SUBMIT THOSE | 0014| PLANS TO THE COMMISSION ON HIGHER EDUCATION FOR REVIEW. | 0015| | 0016| WHEREAS, education is of critical importance to the | 0017| welfare and economy of New Mexico; and | 0018| WHEREAS, the success of students enrolled in post- | 0019| secondary educational institutions directly affects the state | 0020| economy; and | 0021| WHEREAS, the commission on higher education is dedicated | 0022| to improving the standards and access to post-secondary | 0023| education for all New Mexicans; and | 0024| WHEREAS, the legislature is concerned with improving the | 0025| performance of public post-secondary educational institutions |

0001| and the retention and completion rates of students; | 0002| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0003| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that new presidents of the public post- | 0004| secondary educational institutions be requested to prepare | 0005| academic advisory plans for improving rates of student | 0006| retention and, within sixty days of assuming their offices, to | 0007| submit their plans for review to the commission on higher | 0008| education by June 1, 1998; and | 0009| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be | 0010| transmitted to the president of each post-secondary | 0011| educational institution and to the executive director of the | 0012| commission on higher education. | 0013|  |
