0011|     REQUESTING THE LEGISLATIVE FINANCE COMMITTEE TO STUDY THE

0012|     FEASIBILITY OF PROVIDING EXTRA BENEFITS TO PUBLIC SCHOOL

0013|     TEACHERS IN LIEU OF SALARY INCREASES.

0015|          WHEREAS, public school teachers are required to obtain
    |
0016|     in-service training, and state schools of post-secondary
    |
0017|     teacher education charge tuition for the continuing education;
    |
0018|     and
    |
0019|          WHEREAS, public school teachers pay for public services
    |
0020|     as do other citizens, services such as emissions testing fees,
    |
0021|     admission to state parks, driver's license fees, vehicle
    |
0022|     registration fees and professional licensure or certification
    |
0023|     fees;
    |
0024|          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
    |
0025|     STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the legislative finance committee be
    |

0001|     requested to study the feasibility and evaluate the costs to
    |
0002|     the state treasury of providing public school teachers waivers
    |
0003|     of state fees and service charges in lieu of salary increases
    |
0004|     and report its findings and recommendations to the legislature
    |
0005|     by December 1, 1998; and
    |
0006|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
    |
0007|     transmitted to members of the legislative finance committee
    |
0008|     and to the director of the legislative finance committee.
