0011| REQUESTING THE COMMISSION ON HIGHER EDUCATION TO STUDY THE

0012| FEASIBILITY OF PRIVATIZING THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO SCHOOL

0015| WHEREAS, the university of New Mexico school of law has a
|
0016| faculty of thirty and a student body of about three hundred
|
0017| forty, providing one of the smallest faculty-student ratios in
|
0018| the country, but has a budget of about five million one
|
0019| hundred thousand dollars ($5,100,000); and
|
0020| WHEREAS, the concept of converting publicly operated
|
0021| schools to privately operated schools is gaining acceptance
|
0022| nationwide;
|
0023| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
|
0024| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the commission on higher education
|
0025| study the feasibility, implications and potential savings and
|

0001| costs to the state and its taxpayers of privatizing the
|
0002| university of New Mexico school of law; and
|
0003| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the commission report its
|
0004| findings to the appropriate interim committee by November 1,
|
0005| 1998; and
|
0006| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be
|
0007| transmitted to the executive director of the commission on
|
0008| higher education.
