AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO COMPENSATE THE PUEBLO OF ZIA FOR THE USE OF THE ZIA SYMBOL BY THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Seventy-four million dollars ($74,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of finance and administration for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the purpose of compensating the pueblo of Zia for the unauthorized use of the Zia sun symbol as the state symbol for seventy-five years. The governor shall negotiate a contract with the pueblo of Zia for continued use of its sun symbol. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
