AN ACT

RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION; EXEMPTING RETIRED VETERANS FROM THE PAYMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION FEES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. A new Section 66-6-16.1 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

"66-6-16.1. [NEW MATERIAL] RETIRED VETERANS EXEMPTED.--A retired veteran is exempt from the payment of vehicle registration fees to the state on any vehicle owned by the veteran. As used in this section, "retired veteran" means a resident of New Mexico who actively served twenty years or more in the armed forces of the United States and who is receiving a pension from the United States armed forces as a result of that service."
