AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION TO ESTABLISH A COMPREHENSIVE NEW MEXICO HISTORY CURRICULUM.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal years 2000 through 2002 for the purpose of initiating a five-year program to develop a comprehensive New Mexico history curriculum for use statewide in public schools. The curriculum shall accurately reflect the past of Native Americans, Hispanic Americans and all other people that contributed to New Mexico's rich cultural fabric. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
