AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION TO PROVIDE TRAINING AND SUPPORT SERVICES FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS THAT FOCUS ON TEACHING OF EFFECTIVE READING TECHNIQUES.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Forty thousand dollars ($40,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the purposes of providing professional development programs for teachers in Torrance and Santa Fe counties to train with professional instructors in the Rio Rancho school district and learn how to teach effective reading techniques to students in the early grades who are having difficulty in their reading and writing literacy skills. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
