AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO PROVIDE INCREASED PUBLIC AND PROFESSIONAL AWARENESS OF THE DANGERS OF OBESITY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. One hundred fifty thousand ($150,000) dollars is appropriated from the general fund to the department of health for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the following purposes in the following amounts:

(1) one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) for increased public and professional education on the dangers of and treatments for obesity; and

(2) fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) for payment for anti-obesity prescription drugs not eligible for reimbursement under the medicaid program for low-income persons in need of treatment for critical or chronic obesity.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
