RELATING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT; PROVIDING PUBLIC NOTICE REGARDING SEX OFFENDERS; REPEALING AND ENACTING SECTIONS OF THE SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION ACT.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. A new section of the Sex Offender Registration Act is enacted to read:

"[NEW MATERIAL] PUBLIC NOTICE REGARDING SEX OFFENDERS.--No later than the eighth day after receiving registration information from a sex offender, a county sheriff shall publish notice in English and Spanish in the newspaper of greatest general circulation in that county regarding:

A. the legal name of the sex offender;

B. the sex offender's current address; and

C. the sex offense for which he was convicted."

Section 2. REPEAL.--Section 29-11A-6 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1995, Chapter 106, Section 6) is repealed.
