AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN RURAL AREAS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Seven hundred thousand dollars ($700,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the local government division of the department of finance and administration for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the purpose of assisting qualified rural public transportation programs in meeting federal match requirements for federal public transportation grants. Assistance shall be provided only to rural transportation programs that contribute at least twenty-five percent local match. The local government division of the department of finance and administration shall coordinate with the public transportation programs bureau of the state highway and transportation department to select the rural areas that will receive funding. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
