AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR VARIOUS SENIOR CITIZEN PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT NEW MEXICO.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Eight million seven hundred eight thousand nine hundred fifty-six dollars ($8,708,956) is appropriated from the general fund to the state agency on aging for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the following purposes in the following amounts:

(1) six million two hundred ninety-five thousand two hundred forty-four dollars ($6,295,244) to the six area agencies on aging for senior services, including case management; respite care, including Alzheimer's respite care; adult day care; congregate meals; home delivered meals; transportation; and in-home services;

(2) one million ninety-nine thousand nine hundred eighty dollars ($1,099,980) to provide increased volunteer positions for the foster grandparent, senior companion and RSVP programs;

(3) three hundred seventy-nine thousand eight hundred forty-four dollars ($379,844) for increased information and assistance, consultation and education and respite care services for individuals with Alzheimer's disease or related disorders and their family caregivers;

(4) twenty-one thousand eight hundred forty-seven dollars ($21,847) for statewide senior olympics activities;

(5) one hundred sixty-three thousand three hundred eighty-five dollars ($163,385) for statewide long-term-care ombudsman services;

(6) one hundred eighty-five thousand dollars ($185,000) for increased health insurance and public benefits counseling efforts using peer counselors;

(7) two hundred seventy-three thousand two hundred eighty-two dollars ($273,282) to provide increased employment opportunities for older, low-income individuals;

(8) forty thousand three hundred seventy-four dollars ($40,374) for increased legal assistance for older individuals;

(9) one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) to increase mental health peer counseling efforts; and

(10) one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) to increase respite care services for caregivers.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
