AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO RECRUIT QUALITY TEACHERS FROM OTHER STATES FOR NEW MEXICO'S PUBLIC SCHOOLS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 to distribute to school districts that recruit quality teachers from other states who have obtained certification by the national board for professional teaching standards. School districts may use their distribution to provide a stipend for moving costs to each teacher recruited who is certified by the national board for professional teaching standards. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
