AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION FOR A PILOT PROGRAM TO OFFER AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE ELECTIVE IN THREE SCHOOL DISTRICTS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 to conduct a pilot program in the Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Gadsden school districts offering American sign language as a foreign language elective course for high school students at one site in each school district. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
