AN ACT

RELATING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING; CREATING THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING CENTER FUND; ENACTING A NEW SECTION OF CHAPTER 29, ARTICLE 7 NMSA 1978.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. A new section of Chapter 29, Article 7 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

"[NEW MATERIAL] LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING CENTER FUND CREATED--PURPOSE.--

A. There is created in the state treasury the "law enforcement training center fund". All income earned on the fund shall be credited to the fund. All balances in the law enforcement training center fund shall be appropriated subject to legislative approval to the training and recruiting division of the department of public safety for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of Subsection B of this section. Balances in the law enforcement training center fund shall not revert to the general fund.

B. The law enforcement training center fund shall be administered by the training and recruiting division of the department of public safety for the purpose of providing in-service law enforcement training to local and state law enforcement officers as required by the Law Enforcement Training Act."

Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 1999.
