AN ACT

RELATING TO THE PUBLIC PEACE, HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE; MAKING APPROPRIATIONS TO THE NEW MEXICO OFFICE OF INDIAN AFFAIRS TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR PLANNING, DESIGN OR CONSTRUCTION OF CERTAIN FACILITIES OF THE MESCALERO APACHE TRIBE IN MESCALERO IN OTERO COUNTY; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATIONS.--

A. Six hundred fifty thousand dollars ($650,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the New Mexico office of Indian affairs for expenditure in fiscal years 1999 and 2000 in the following amounts for the following purposes:

(1) fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) for planning, design and construction of an inter-generational facility for the youth and the elderly of the Mescalero Apache tribe in Mescalero in Otero county; and

(2) six hundred thousand dollars ($600,000) for planning and design of phase 1 of new school buildings for Mescalero Apache school in Mescalero in Otero county.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
