44TH LEGISLATURE - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - FIRST SESSION, 1999

REQUESTING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION AND THE NEW MEXICO ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION TO DEVELOP A PROGRAM TO ALLOW HOME SCHOOL STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN PUBLIC SCHOOL ATHLETIC PROGRAMS.

WHEREAS, the population of students in home school education is increasing; and

WHEREAS, home school students need the opportunity for physical education in group athletic events; and

WHEREAS, the public school educated students can benefit from contact with students educated in other settings;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state department of public education and the New Mexico activities association be requested to develop a program of allowing home school students to participate in organized public school athletic programs; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the superintendent of public instruction and to the director of the New Mexico activities association.
