AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE COMMISSION ON HIGHER EDUCATION TO SUPPORT A FACULTY TECHNOLOGY MENTOR PROGRAM AT PUBLIC TWO-YEAR POST-SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred sixty-four thousand dollars ($164,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the commission on higher education for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 to support a faculty technology mentor program at public two-year post-secondary educational institutions statewide. Using the Albuquerque technical-vocational institute and San Juan college programs as models, selected faculty from each public two-year post-secondary educational institution may attend a summer and winter training institute to develop expertise in contextual learning, technology-enhanced instruction and distance delivery of instruction. The faculty will be required to share their expertise with faculty on their respective campuses and with area public school teachers. Each public two-year post-secondary educational institution that receives funds for the program shall provide an equal amount of funding to match the state appropriation. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
