AN ACT

MAKING APPROPRIATIONS TO PROVIDE FUNDING TO TRIBES, TRIBAL ORGANIZATIONS OR CONSORTIUMS OF TRIBES TO IMPLEMENT THE NATIVE AMERICAN COMPONENT OF THE STATE CHILDREN'S HEALTH INSURANCE PHASE TWO PLAN.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--The following amounts are appropriated from the general fund to the department of health for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 for the following purposes:

A. one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) to fund an independent demographer to develop an ongoing method to determine the number and location of Native American children in New Mexico and their eligibility for medicaid and the state children's health insurance phase two plan; and

B. five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) to fund the establishment of children's health boards in tribal regions to guide implementation of the Native American component of the state children's health insurance phase two plan, including conducting a needs assessment and resource inventory of resources available in each region to determine health care needs for service delivery to Native American children.

Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
